Esteban Echeverría Fernández | Renewable Energy and Clean Fuels Advisor

With over 12 years of experience in clean energy, Esteban has worked across Latin America, Africa, and Asia, helping companies, governments, and organizations develop low-carbon solutions. His expertise spans hydrogen, alternative fuels, and renewable energy project development. Esteban has led feasibility studies, market research, and strategic planning for renewable energy and clean fuel projects. His background includes collaborations with multilateral organizations, development banks, and private-sector leaders in the energy transition.

Throughout his career, Esteban has been instrumental in several high-impact projects and initiatives, including:

✔ Contributed to the development of Costa Rica’s first hydrogen infrastructure – He was part of the team of engineers in charge of the design and installation of the country’s first hydrogen production, high-pressure storage, and refueling facility for fuel cell vehicles.

✔ Assisted in executing major financing projects for Costa Rica’s electricity sector – As part of the IDB’s Energy Division, he assisted in executing and managing over $385 million in sovereign loan operations and $2 million in Technical Cooperations for the modernization of the country’s energy infrastructure.

✔ Supported the creation of Costa Rica’s National Hydrogen Strategy – As part of the IDB’s Energy Division, he assisted in designing and executing the Technical Cooperations for the Development of the National Hydrogen Strategy for Costa Rica.

✔ Supported the creation of Panama’s National Hydrogen Strategy – Worked with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the National Energy Secretariat of Panama to design enabling policies and assess market potential.

✔ Coordinated the Costa Rican Hydrogen Alliance – Managed an industry group of over 35 members, advocating for clean hydrogen policies and fostering collaboration between key stakeholders.

✔ Led feasibility studies for small to large-scale hydrogen and ammonia projects – Conducted techno-economic and resource assessments for international projects in Costa Rica, Morocco, Bhutan, and Uzbekistan, identifying optimal sites for clean fuel production.
